I couldn't get the sound to work, I exported it and when I opened it there was no sound.  All options in the render video dialogue box regarding audio output were checked ON, there is no reason that it shouldn't work short of a force of God.

Artist Report

       Matthew Ritchie graduated from Camberwell College of Arts in London, England in 1986 where he received his BFA.  Since the early 1990's he's established himself prominently in the contemporary art scene.  His creation process involves him making drawings and scanning them into the computer where he then alters, deconstructs or transfers into 3D images, where he can then print them out, project them on large walls, create interactivity or send them as plans to a metal shop to make them into sculptures.  He layers his drawings on transparent paper as a part of his planning process so as to draw out the narrative from his series of motifs and ideas. 
       His main ongoing motif is information and how we use information to explore religion philosophy and science.  By doing this he has created his own narrative for an alternate universe where these ideas are manipulated through a different information "tunnel" in which science and religion may have coincided differently.  His most recent pieces, 'Ghost Operator' and 'Universal Adversary', which were featured in New York in London, use these different archetypes of information to document an alternate universe divergent from how our own history of time unfolded.  He explained in a PBS:Art21 interview that he is very much interested in representing scientific innovation but without being completely accurate, he says that his philosophy is rather "a way of having a conversation that’s based on an idea of looking at things than I am in the rhetoric around science."  Since 1990, he has over 25 solo shows and participated in over 100 group exhibitions in galleries such as The Guggenheim, The MoMA, the Museum of Contemporary Art, Basilico Fine Arts, and the Dallas Museum of Art.  He currently works and lives out of New York City.

Anti-Whaling, Anti-Context - Project Progress

        I dissolved the idea of an interlaced piece of different cultural perspectives into one focusing on the whaling industry in Japan. 
        A brief history: Japan has hunted whales for hundreds of years, it is part of their culture, and whale meat is a delicacy.  Now in this modern era there have been conservative sanctions placed on whaling worldwide by the International Whaling Commission.  Japan ignores these sanctions and continues to thin the the already small numbers of Humpback and Bottlenose whales by claiming they are conducting "scientific research" and are merely collecting "samples." Yet tracking numbers on packaged whale meat shows they're shipping these "research samples" to local restaurants for huge profit.
        Regarding the composition, I'm not sure whether I should use the Japan-side panel (right) to show that while they have a legitimate and rich culture and history in this area that they are still committing a humanitarian injustice, or rather to show them as mindless butchers with no regard for animal life.

I was thinking that maybe I could work with the idea of wildlife conservation and the ethics behind ecological preservation as my motif.  In the triptych I might incorporate the views on this matter from different nations of the world, or possibly show how the environment is being effected in different ecological habitats; such as reefs, the arctic, deciduous/tropical forests, wetlands, etc.  In this different habitats approach I might also introduce the varying effects of poaching on the wildlife in these areas.  I don't have all the details worked out yet but I have a solid idea of what I want; wildlife conservation, habitat/environmental preservation, and maybe animal rights.
